Where to find us
Plan your trip in Martinique
Martinique offers a range of diverse landscapes to explore, from the rainforests and mountains of the north of the island, to the gorgeous bays and beaches of the south.
You'll probably arrive in Fort-de-France, Martinique’s capital and main port. Look out for the impressive iron structure of the Saint Louis Cathedral, which was inspired by Gustave Eiffel and dominates the town. Down at the harbour you'll find the Fort Saint-Louis, dating back to the reign of Louis XIII. And don't miss the colourful spice market on Rue Blénac et Isambert.
The island is justifiably famous for its beaches and watersports. Martinique is adorned with white sandy beaches in the south. In the north you'll find black sandy beaches, a result of island’s past volcanic activity. With an Avis hire car you can explore them all.
All this and more simply add to Martinique’s beauty and uniqueness.
Road trips around Martinique
BalataOnly a 20 minute drive away from Fort-de-France is Balata, a quaint little town and home to the Jardin de Balata, a botanical garden crammed with exotic plants and tropical trees, with views of the Pitons du Carbet.
On the Route de Balata, turn left just after the Balata Gardens for Cascade d´Absalon, and take a refreshing dip in the water basin of this easily accessible waterfall. Park your car just after the bridge and take care on the slippery steps!
Mount Pelee and St Pierre
Mount Pelee is a semi- active volcano in the north of the island. Hike to the top to enjoy the views over St Pierre, once the most important city in Martinique, it was destroyed when the volcano erupted back in 1902.
Martinique beaches
For shops, bars and restaurants head to the resorts of Sainte-Anne and Trois-Ilets. Further south, Les Salines, is a very popular and picturesque beach and an ideal place to relax and enjoy the Caribbean sun.
