Annual festivals like the Maun Festival celebrate Botswana’s traditional music and dance.
Top attractions
- Okavango Delta: Located within the Kalahari Basin, the Okavango Delta is the world’s largest intact inland delta. It has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status and is packed with a diverse range of wildlife.
- Chobe National Park: Home to one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants and buffalos, the Chobe River and its teak riverine forests are waiting to be explored.
- Moremi Game Reserve: The first reserve established by its residents in Africa, Moremi prides itself on having spectacular game viewing, over 400 bird species and mesmerising sunsets.
- Makgadikgadi Pans: Traverse the vast salt pans of Makgadikgadi. The harsh environment is largely waterless with massive baobabs, sand dunes and rocky outcrops.
What to do
- Birdwatching: Botswana is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 500 bird species recorded. Explore birding hotspots like Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park.
- Quad biking: The lack of large mammals in the Makgadikgadi pans makes it a great place to see from a quad bike. Marvel at the expansive landscapes and unique desert scenery.
- Boating: Explore the shallow waters of the Okavango Delta by Mokoro. This quiet form of game viewing transport allows you to get closer to the delta’s wildlife.
- Safari: Botswana is brimming with safari options from game drive vehicles and self-drive to boat cruises, horseback and cycling.
