Plan your trip to Lamezia Terme
Lamezia Terme, commonly called Lamezia, is an Italian city in the Catanzaro province of the Calabria region of Italy. Serviced by its own international airport, Lamezia is a great jumping off point to explore the south west tip of Italy in your Avis hire car.
Lamezia itself is only a recent formation, three towns in the Province of Catanzaro came together in 1968 to create the city we see today. The landscape is noted for its beauty, nestled between the cliffs of the Tyrrhenian Coast and the sand dunes of the Ionic Coast.
Built in 1550, the Malta Bastion stand guard over Lamezia. Built as a watchtower by the Knights of Malta it is the most impressive of many ruins in the area and is the symbol of Lamezia. Further explore the regions history at the Diocesan Museum, home to several paintings and art objects from the 17th and 18th century.
Shoppers should head to the Due Mari Mall. A short distance from Lamezia it’s a great place on a rainy day, with a wide selection of shops, cafes and restaurants it has something for the whole family. Food lovers will be keen to sample reknowned Calabrian cuisine. Lamezia and its surrounds are home to many excellent restaurants, cooking simple yet delicious food with the bountiful local larder.
Evenings in Lamezia are very laid back locals tend to eat later here, taking in an aperitif before dinner in one of the many bars before heading to a nearby restaurant. Finishing the evening with a stroll and perhaps enjoying an ice cream.

Reggio Calabria Take the A3 heading south. Driving for roughly one hour 30 minutes. Reggio Calabria is the largest city in the region and sits across the straits of Messina from the Isle of Sicily. Reggio, as it is known locally, has lots of interesting architecture, museums, galleries and archeological sites. The Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Reggio Calabria, is arguably one of the regions most important attractions. With relics from the numerous Greek sites found throughout Calabria the spectacular Riace bronzes should not be missed.
Siderno For a day at the beach, head to the town of Siderno on the eastern coast of the peninsula. About an-hour-and-20-minute drive away from Lamezia, it has wide sandy beaches and numerous cafes and restaurants. Take the A3 south, turning left onto the SS682 towards the coast and on to Siderno.
Parco Nazionale della Sila The Parco Nazionale della Sila is a great place for nature lovers. An hour and 40 minutes' drive north from Lamezia via the A3, E846 and SS177 leads you into the park.
