Discovery Cove, the more intimate sister park to SeaWorld Orlando, lets visitors swim with dolphins, snorkel with tropical fish and rays and float on its relaxing Wind-away River.
Road trips from Orlando
Forty-five minutes’ drive from Orlando, Kennedy Space Center features the Saturn V rocket, the largest and one of the most powerful ever built, and the 10-storey Atlantis space shuttle exhibit, backed by moving images of Earth and still coated in space dust from its 33 missions.Drive for just over 4 hours in your hire car and you’ll reach the Everglades. Airboat tours explore a tiny portion of the three-million-acre wetland of swamps, marshes and rivers where tourists will meet their fair share of alligators and eagles.
Not many cold-climate visitors to Florida will have swum in 72-degree spring waters. Until they park up at De Leon Springs State Park, an hour due north of Orlando, where the water temperature is unchanged year-round. Canoeing or kayaking more your thing? Half-an-hour from Orlando, at Wekiva Springs State Park, it’s possible to paddle along the Wekiva River and Rock Springs Run and imagine a time when Native Americans fished and hunted these lands.
