Avis Congratulates 2017 Ironman Champions
The 2017 Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship was a huge success with over 1 800 triathletes competing in this year’s challenge. Avis was once again honoured to sponsor this grueling triathlon, which took place at the Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth on 2 April.Avis has been the official car rental partner to IRONMAN since 2014 providing support vehicles geared to be ready should participants need assistance at any point during the race as well as a manned water station to keep the runners hydrated on route.
This year’s Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship started with a one-lap, 3.86 km swim beginning and ending on Hobie Beach followed by two laps of a 90km bike course, taking athletes along the coast at Marine Drive before moving slightly inland at Seaview and returning along the coast to the transition area where they began their run. The run course took athletes along four loops along Marine Drive totalling 42.20km and brought them closer to their fans and friends as well as crowds of 90 000-plus spectators.
