The Withdrawal of E-toll Declaration on National Roads
Dear Valued Customers,
We refer to the Government Gazette 50418, published on the 28th of March 2024 regarding the withdrawal of the toll declaration of National roads, referred colloquially as the e-toll roads.
The above Government Gazette gives effect to the de-declaration of the Gauteng e-toll routes to non-toll.
FAQ’s
1. When is the effective date and time of the withdrawal of toll declarations?
The effective date and time is 11 April 2024 at 23:59:59
2. What will happen to transactions that occur before the effective date?
All transactions that occur prior to the 12th of April 2024, are required to be settled in full and will be billed accordingly to a customer’s account.
3. What does this mean for e-tags that are installed in our fleet?
All e-tags in our fleet will be de-activated on 11 April 2024 at 23:59:59 and removed from the vehicles.
4. Will our customers be able to use e-tags on normal tollgates?
No, our customers will no longer be able to use e-tags to pass through normal tollgates as the tags will be removed from the vehicles. If you are a Leasing customer for our Avis Fleet business, and wish to retain the e-tags for the normal tollgates; please inform your key accounts executive in writing otherwise there will be a charge for unreturned tags.
5. Will e-toll invoices be issued to customers post the 11th of April?
The e-toll invoices will be rolled up until the last day, being the 11th of April 2024 at 23:59:59 hrs that Key Accounts Holders are obligated to pay for e-toll transactions and those invoices will be issued as per standard process.
6. Will there be re-funding and/or prosecution of outstanding e-toll fees?
As the implementing authority, SANRAL has not received any information regarding the re-funding and/or prosecution of outstanding e-toll fees. Once an instruction has been received in this regard from its political principle, SANRAL will inform its Key Account Holders accordingly.
7. Will the Gantry lights and cameras be switched off?
The Gantry lights and cameras will remain on as the infrastructure will be used for various other road safety initiatives; however, it is important to note that the tag will no longer beep after the 11th of April 2024 on the e-toll network.
