Alexanders Southern Africa Safari
Close encounters and local hospitality
Alexander, Erynn and her mom Marita took an Avis Safari vehicle on a self-drive ovelanding adventure through Kruger National Park and Botswana. Here's what they had to say about their trip.
Southern Africa Safari
Our 16 day self-drive safari through Kruger, a day transfer to Vic Falls and mostly northern Botswana was a trip of a lifetime. It is easier and safer than you think. Self drive safari and a local advisor is the way to go if you want to get close to animals and avoid tourist groups. Alex’s research of every Safari vehicle vendor on the continent led him to Overland 360. They have the best trucks, and now we know they have the best advisors too.
Our trusty safari advisor Stephen Becker laid out the maps showing the suggested route, recommended all the best camp spots, what to expect at the borders and vet fences, driving tips and a ton of local information.
He hooked us up with our amazing 4x4 safari machine equipped with a full kitchen, shower and 2 pop-up/out tents. This beast got us through thick mud, deep soft sand, and river crossings with no issue. We navigated to the booked campsites with the GPS provided. Each night the animals came right into our camp so I would lie awake just listening to the different sounds. From our pop-up tent I was eye-to-eye with an elephant. Another night we found ourselves only a few meters away from 6 or so hippos. One camp had a resident leopard that we were fortunate to see close-up. Another camp delivered the best ever lasagne to our site! This isn’t advertised and is just one example of Steve’s local knowledge providing an optimum holiday experience.
