Trevor Downs and Gerry Grobbler (owners) have been part of the Avis family, for the past 15 years. In February 2008, Avis Van Rental Ladysmith, opened with Manager Wayne Downs.
The station was opened in order to fulfil, not only the industrial needs of areas such as Nambithi/Ladysmith area, Vryheid, Newcastle, Harysmith and Estcourt, but also the large tourism market, that come from all over the world to see majestic mountains of the Drakensburg as well as the Historical sights and experiences, such as the Anglo Boer War, the Battle of Blood River, the Siege of Ladysmith and many more.
The lastest industrial "arrival" is the Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme. The Ingula power station is a R16,6-billion project, which is a pumped storage scheme situated on the border between the Free State and KwaZula-Natal (KZN), is currently on schedule to commission its first unit in September 2012. The Ingula Power Station has provided direct and indirect employment to about 4 000 local people.
Ladysmith is a natural gateway to the tourist delights of the Central and Nothern reaches of the Drakensberg range. Snowcapped peaks during winter from a breathtaking backdrop.
Ladysmith is surrounded by more than 10 major battle sites, including Spioenkop, Wagon Hill/Platrand, Elandslaagte, Nicholson's Nek, Tugela Heights, Gun Hill & Lombard's Kop and various other sites where skirmishes took place. Registered local tour guides are available to accompany you and make history come alive. Ladysmith is the ideal place to start any trip to the numerous battle sites in the vicinity.
