The newly established Avis Van Rental branch in Rustenburg is the second in the company’s extensive network to be black-owned, confirming the success of the sub-licensee formula as an effective vehicle for the creation of black-owned enterprises.
Unlike Avis’s car rental and leasing operations, Avis Van Rental is franchise-driven which allows local entrepreneurs to establish their own business coupled with the systems, support and the service quality pledge of the world’s leading car rental system.
The station, which will open on 10 October, will be owned by David and Elizabeth Mphuthi and Simon and Prudence Magoro. Linda Lombard, general manager of Avis Van Rental, also noted that this will be the first branch in which black women have a shareholding.
“David has been with Avis for over 17 years. He started as a driver at another company in the transport industry and has worked his way through the Avis ranks from being a driver trainer to fulfilling a key position in our human resources department. He will leave behind some big shoes to fill,” says Lombard. “But we have every confidence that he and his new team will exceed their customers’ expectations at every interface.”
