Cape Town Cycle Tour 2017
Avis is the official partner of Cape Town Cycle Tour 2017
This year, Avis Rent a Car continues its relationship with the world-famous Cape Town Cycle Tour, coming on board for the fourth year running as the official car-rental partner to the event, on Sunday, 12 March, 2017.“Avis is your trusted mobility partner,” says Rainer Gottschick, Chief Executive at Avis Rent a Car southern Africa. “The Cape Town Cycle Tour is a perfect fit for us. We’re about helping people, getting them where they need to be, so we’re inspired by this iconic race, where cyclists train for months to make personal breakthroughs.”
Avis will be an integral part of this year’s event — now in its 40th year — sponsoring several event vehicles, including three lead vehicles. Dynamic Avis brand ambassadors will also man a popular water point to keep riders fuelled for the race.
This year also sees the return of an initiative that is becoming a popular feature of the race, as a team of Avis bike mechanics in branded Avis gear provides Avis Emergency Bike Repairs on the route.
The 2017 event will see 35 000 cyclists riding the tour, the largest timed cycling event in the world. The route takes cyclists south from the Cape Town City Hall, past Muizenberg and Simonstown, over Smitswinkel to Misty Cliffs and then north back to the city via Noordhoek and Chapman’s Peak. The race record of 2 hours, 27 minutes, 29 seconds was set by Robbie Hunter in 2008.
“Besides the human endurance that the event requires, it’s a magnificent experience to be part of,” says Gottschick. “It’s festive, the camaraderie between riders is incredible and the scenery around Cape Town is some of the most beautiful in the world. It’s a privilege for Avis to be involved.”
Avis will add to the joyful excitement of the event with an innovative stand at the race expo.
“Avis is committed to make the Cape Town Cycle Tour the success it always is,” says Gottschick. “It’s an iconic part of the cultural and sporting life of Cape Town and South Africa. We can’t wait to be part of it once again.”
