Para-Cycling Due finishes Absa Cape Epic
Avis celebrates para-cycling duo success at 2017 ABSA Cape Epic
Reuben van Niekerk and Kevin Benkenstein have completed the 2017 Cape Epic in the 378th position out of 650 teams who participated. A personal best for Reuben van Niekerk. Having set their target on being a part of the top 400, this pair have shown that they are a formidable mountain biking force.“We went into the race fairly conservatively, but we had discussed being in the top two thirds of the results. After the first two days, we saw that this could be possible. Supporters got wind of this and we gave it our all!” exclaimed Reuben Van Niekerk. “Riding for Jumping Kids, driven by Avis and encouraged by a plethora of supporters, we were resolute in our determination to achieve our goal.”
As an ambassador of Jumping Kids, van Niekerk has played a critical role in the realisation of Avis’ mission to unlock the true potential of people with disabilities. Avis’ partnership with Jumping Kids is more than a corporate social responsibility programme – it has become an integral part of the company’s business. Jumping Kids gives children living with amputation access to prosthetic tools required to lead full and active lives.
“We would like to congratulate Reuben and Kevin for their amazing accomplishment and outstanding results. When we consider the calibre of riders that participate in the ABSA Cape Epic, we are encouraged by their determination and commitment to complete the race,” says Rainer Gottschick, Chief Executive of Avis Rent a Car southern Africa. “Reuben and Kevin’s success at the 2017 ABSA Cape Epic is a testament to what can be accomplished when passion is behind a purpose. We look forward to seeing an increase in support and interest for Jumping Kids through our partnership.”
