Avis Explains Car Rental Charges
4 Reasons why your rental quote may differ from your final invoice
Customers are often surprised when they receive their final invoice and is slightly different to the quoted fee. Avis provides some insights into why customers may find that they are paying more than they expected on return of their vehicle.1. Vehicle returned late
When booking an Avis vehicle, customers need to take note of their pick up and drop off times. Avis allows for a 29-minute grace period when picking up and dropping of the rented vehicle. If the vehicle is returned or picked up after the grace period, the customer will be charged for an additional rental day.
2. Excess kilometer charge
Every rental with Avis comes with a selected number of kilometers included in the rental agreement. When customers go over these specified kilometers, they will be charged.
3. Damage of the rental vehicle
A rental vehicle from Avis is rented damage free, fair wear and tear is excluded. Customers need to ensure they inspect their vehicle when they pick it up and advise Avis of any damage, no matter how minor, to the vehicle. If the vehicle is damaged in any way during the rental, the customer is liable and will be charged for the repairs to the vehicle. To ensure customers’ peace of mind in the unlikely event of an accident, Avis encourages its customers to ensure they have the correct waiver option and to take the additional driver option should they expect another person to drive the vehicle during the rental period. By doing this, they will know exactly what liability they may potentially be liable for.
4. Fuel tank not filled up when the vehicle is returned
Customers assume that the Avis rental vehicle comes with a free tank of fuel. This is not the case, on pick up the tank will be full but on return of the vehicle, customers will be charged for the fuel used if they have not returned the vehicle with a full tank. The cost of fuel is regulated in South Africa and Avis charges all its customers the standard petrol station fee. Customers may also consider the option of paying for their full tank of petrol upfront when picking up the vehicle.
